Holidays can be a stressful time, but since exercise releases endorphins for that feel good effect, maintaining your regular fitness program can help keep the cheer in the holiday season.

- Avoid the unhealthy holiday treats by keeping only healthy food in the fridge. If you don’t buy the egg nog and pumpkin spice whipped cream, you won’t be tempted to consume them.
- Heading out to holiday party? Be sure to eat a healthy meal or snack before you go so you don’t show up hungry and ready to eat everything in sight. Allow yourself a few treats, but with a healthy meal beforehand, a few bites should satisfy you.
- Can’t give up the holiday baking? Baking is a family tradition for a lot of people, but does not have to lead to extra insulation around your midsection. Only bake your favorites and instead of leaving them around to tempt you, share them with your friends, family, neighbors and co-workers.
- Schedule short workouts in your days. Even 15 minutes can be enough to keep you on track and help maintain the holiday spirit by helping you better deal with the stress of the season. HIIT workouts (high intensity interval training) are quick, high-paced routines that can often be done in your home with minimal equipment. The key is to get your heart rate elevated for heart healthy benefits.
- Stick to your sleep routine as much as possible. Staying out late at parties or up late wrapping presents will only make you more irritable the next day. Enjoy the party but make a timely exit and don’t procrastinate when to comes to holiday chores.
