Frequently Asked Questions
1. What is a Personal Trainer?
A Personal Trainer is a person that is hired to help others reach their fitness goals.

2. What sets you apart from other trainers?

We are so glad you asked! First of all, our innate passion and desire to see you succeed is the most important thing that helps us help you. There a few other things that are important as well. You will have our undivided attention during our sessions, since we will be constantly monitoring your progress and making necessary adjustments to your program. We will be tracking your activities every step of the way, and take the guesswork out of figuring out what you should be doing to reach your fitness goals.

3. What is metabolism?
Metabolism is the amount of energy (calories) your body burns to maintain itself. Muscles use more calories than fat to function properly, therefore, people that have a high percentage of muscle generally have a higher metabolism than those that have a higher percentage of fat.

4. How can I increase my metabolism?
The best way to increase your metabolism (assuming you are in good health) is to begin exercising which, when combined with a healthy diet, will decrease your body fat percentage and increase your lean body weight percentage. As stated above, muscle uses more calories than fat to maintain itself.

5. What is my target heart rate (THR)?
Your target heart rate is the heart rate that your body needs to sustain in order to reach an appropriate exercise intensity level. This number will be different for everyone since it is age and fitness level dependent. As your trainer, I will calculate this number for you and provide you with activities that are designed to keep you within your target heart rate training zone

.
6. What is BMR?
BMR stands for basal metabolic rate and is also termed RMR or resting metabolic rate. It describes the amount of calories your body needs to sustain itself at rest. It is an important indicator since it will let you know how many calories you can consume per day without promoting weight gain. This number will decrease as you age, which could mean that you will gain weight unless the number of calories consumed per day is not decreased and/or exercise is not increased. I know these are hard facts, but it is true!

7. Do diets work?
Diets can help you lose weight if you are willing to make a permanent lifestyle change in your eating and exercise habits. The reason that diets don't work all the time is because some people use the diet to help them lose a certain amount of weight and then when they go off of the diet they return to their old eating habits and don't incorporate exercise into their lifestyles.

8. How can I get rid of the 'flab' under my arms?
We frequently get asked this question or similar questions pertaining to other body parts. If it were possible to spot-check body parts to get rid of excess fat without surgery, we'd be rich! Without surgery, the only way to get rid of unwanted excess fat is to change your body composition and increase your lean mass and decrease your body fat percentage. This takes patience, patience and more patience since your body didn't get to its current state overnight, nor will it change into your ideal appearance overnight. As your trainer, we will let you know expected timeframes for losing a certain amount of body fat, assuming you follow our recommendations for your eating habits and exercise.

Please note that we get a lot of questions and it is very hard to answer all of them here. We will update this page periodically with those questions most frequently asked. Or you can email us if you have one that you need to have answered right away. Thanks for visiting!
